New dam, the first caisson takes shape

The first caisson of the new Genoa breakwater is taking shape in the “Dario” prefabrication plant, in the water body of Vado Ligure. In compliance with the timetable, as announced in March, the construction site areas were delivered and the first activities consequently began, including the procurement of the reinforcing bars for the cellular concrete caissons. The first concrete pour will start towards the end of the week and will continue without stopping until the completion of the first caisson which, together with the subsequent ones in continuous cycle production, will create the first ridge of the dam approximately in front of the Genoa Lantern.

The next objective in the month of May – says the Port Authority – will be the laying of this first caisson which, once completed at the Vado Ligure plant, will be floated with a complex series of operations and finally transported by sea to the port of Genoa, where it will be sunk in its definitive location, above the basing bench built on the gravel columns.

At the same time, still at the Vado shipyard, work continues on the head of the platform for the installation of the cranes serving the second floating caisson prefabrication plant, a special nautical vessel called Tronds Barge 33, equipped with the characteristics necessary to support the setup of equipment for the production of larger boxes.
