The Soccer Universities toy broke. On Friday 24 November, Sergio Pelegrin, for the second time after his first exit a few weeks before the start of the championship due to contractual reasons with the Americans, returns to Spain. And they will return to the USA or where all the American players came from.
Then there is the question of the Italian players, some of whom, given the current situation, have moved forward looking for Promotion or First Category football teams in which to play in order to make ends meet by being members of the Suzzara Sport Club, as form of loan. A period of great difficulty therefore began for the Suzzarese company from both a technical and administrative point of view. The first team, presumably, barring any breaking news, will once again be entrusted to Aldo Petrassi and his collaborator. In practice all the young people remain who on more than one occasion, in addition to representing a real resource for the youth academy, were decisive in saving the team, during the past season, from a possible relegation. For a few weeks there had already been an air of demobilization on the part of the Americans, which was then confirmed by the withdrawal of the reserve team from the Uisp amateur championship. The company’s board of directors had tried in various ways to contact the CEO of Soccer Universities Matt Driver but, from what we could learn, he could not be found. Last week, finally, President Palvarini with his collaborators managed to organize a “call” with the American side. The content of this videoconference is not known but it is not difficult to imagine that Soccer Universities has expressed its intention to interrupt “the American dream” with Suzzara. A questionable behavior on the part of the US leadership, to say the least, given the presentation of the agreement with great fanfare, this summer at the Poliedro room in the Piazzalunga centre, in the presence of the mayor Ivan Ongari who had endorsed and appreciated the project. Numerous fans were also present on the occasion who had asked Matt Driver and his associates several questions and who, understandably, were very disappointed by the modus operandi of Soccer Universities which certainly does not give a good image to Suzzare football, which has already been hit by various financial vicissitudes in 1993 and 2009 and to its very warm square of athletes and fans who had already sensed that the Suzzara – Soccer idyll was over.
And regarding the match on 19 November, lost away against Sporting Brescia 1-0, they comment: «Players trying to get by due to an obvious general stampede at the opening of the transfer window. Suzzara Year Zero, nothing more than Project and mega proclamations. But the fans who love Suzzara don’t forget.”
