The draw was not kind to our two and we would probably have preferred to see this match later in time. But unfortunately the position in the ranking of our Berettini made this match possible in one of the first rounds of the tournament.
Yesterday Jannik Sinner got the better of the German Yannick Hanfmann in four sets with a score of 6-3 6-4 3-6 6-3 at the end of a match that became slightly more complicated from the beginning of the third set onwards, but in which the tennis player from Sesto was good at finding the decisive lead in the fourth set. “I’m happy, it wasn’t an easy match against an opponent who played at a good level – the Italian declared in the post-match interview -. A challenge that helped me get into the tournament, now I’ll have to raise my level in view of the second round. It’s nice to play as number one in the world. It’s a particular feeling, wonderful, but in every match you start from zero to zero”.
“It will be tough with Matteo,” Sinner said. “He played a final here, he knows how to play on this surface. It will be a great challenge. Every day is different: let’s see what happens.”
The Roman tennis player, finalist at the “Championships” in 2021, also passed the opening round in four sets: 7-6 (3) 6-2 3-6 6-1 was the score with which he eliminated the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics from the tournament.
