Washington, 13 Oct. (Adnkronos) – While Israel announces that it has hit 200 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon in the last 24 hours and that it has killed dozens of militants, the Red Cross reports the wounding of some paramedics, engaged in a rescue mission, in a raid.
In particular, the Israeli Defense Forces say, the 36th division conducted air raids that destroyed rocket launchers, anti-tank positions, command posts and weapons depots.
The Red Cross for its part speaks of several rescuers injured in an attack that hit a house where they had been sent “in coordination” with Unifil. “While the team was searching for victims to rescue, the house was hit for a second time, injuring rescuers and causing damage to two ambulances.”
Hezbollah claims to have clashed twice with Israeli troops near the village of Ramiya, on the border between southern Lebanon and Israel. According to the group, the clashes lasted an hour. No confirmation has come from the IDF.
The Israeli army reported 5 rockets fired from Lebanon against Haifa. The alarm sounded in the northern city and other nearby communities. According to the IDF, all five rockets were intercepted by the air defenses and no injuries were reported.
At least five dead and a mosque destroyed are the toll from an Israeli raid conducted during the night against southern Lebanon. This was announced by Lebanese security sources quoted by the newspaper L’Orient le Jour, according to which the attack targeted the village of Kfar Tebnit, where, in addition to the mosque, several houses were also hit.
The NNA news agency reports that other Israeli raids were conducted against the villages of Tire and Bint Jbeil and the towns of Dahaira, Alma AlShaab and Naqura.
Israel apparently decided to strike Iranian military and energy infrastructure in response to the October 1 missile attack, while there are no indications that nuclear sites will be among the targets or that it will conduct targeted assassinations. This was revealed by the NBC broadcaster, which quotes American officials, according to which Israel has not yet made a final decision on when to act. The same sources make it known that they have no information indicating that the response will arrive today, but, specifying that Israel does not share the possible timing with Israel, they do not exclude that the response could also arrive during the Yom Kippur holiday, which ends in the next hours.
Iran rejects as “false” the revelations that Hamas tried to implicate it in the October 7 attack and was therefore aware of the ‘Al Aqsa Flood’ operation. In a note cited by the Irna news agency, the Iranian representation at the UN states that the news reported yesterday by the ‘New York Times’ “has no credibility” and is based on “invented documents”.
“While the Doha-based Hamas officials themselves stated that they too were unaware of the operation and that all planning, decision-making and direction was carried out exclusively by the Gaza-based Hamas military wing , any claims attempting to link the operation to Iran or Hezbollah – in whole or in part – lack credibility and originate from falsified documents,” the mission said in a statement.
According to the American newspaper, which cites files seized by the Israeli army, Hamas planned to attack Israel as early as 2022, but postponed the operation to try to obtain support from Tehran and Hezbollah in the meantime.
