How to clear cache on Android phones? The increasingly frequent question has more than one answer which concerns the new update in particular. Andoid 16 has in fact represented the big news of 2025, improving graphics and optimizing the system, but still showing some (physiological) limits if ‘burdened’ by various multimedia or backup files. In these cases, to save space, one of the quickest and most recommended operations is to clear the cache, both of the apps installed on the phone and of the browsers.
This simple gesture allows you to free up memory, increase your phone’s running speed and protect your smartphone from any ‘corrupt’ or superfluous data, which are now only a burden for the device. The cache in fact has the function of speeding up and improving both the loading of multimedia files and app contents, but excess data can worsen the situation rather than improve it. This is why it is necessary, after a certain period of time, to ‘restart’ everything.
How to clear app cache
To clear the app cache the process is simple. By picking up your Android smartphone or tablet, you can read different items on the menu depending on the device, but the path to follow is always the same.
1. First you need to open the list of apps installed on your device. How to do it? Go to Settings, look for the appropriate Apps section, or Applications. To find it you can also use the search bar in the Settings section.
2. Choose which app you want to clear the cache of and open the Storage and Cache, or Memory section. Here a crossroads will open with two options:
– Empty/Clear cache, to delete temporary files only
– Clear storage/Clear data, to reset the app instead (it will be necessary, if applicable, to log in again).
3. For apps that weigh more you may need to repeat the process. This can apply, for example, to those of social networks, marketplaces or those that accumulate many multimedia files.
Another way to free up space on your device is to use Google Files, thus identifying the heaviest or unused apps and duplicate files. Here’s the procedure: Files, then menu (three lines), Clean and follow the suggestions. Everything is explained, in any case, in the guide proposed by Google.
