Splatoon 3 for Nintendo Switch 2 has been classified in Europe: will it be one of the announcements of the next Direct?

Il PEGIthe European body responsible for video game classification, may have teased another conversion coming for Nintendo Switch 2. This time it’s up to Splatoon 3the third chapter of Nintendo’s popular multiplayer “splatter” series.

At the moment the Kyoto house has never confirmed a native version of the game for the new console, but this classification may have anticipated an announcement expected for the next Direct. It wouldn’t be PEGI’s first oversight in recent times: a few days ago the Switch 2 version of Pikmin 3 Deluxe also appeared in its database, potentially ruining Nintendo’s communication plans.

A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with new content?

Splatoon 3 was released on Nintendo Switch in September 2022. It is interesting to note that, despite not being a native title for Switch 2, last September it received an update with several improvements dedicated to the new console, including an increased resolution up to 2160p via DLSS upscaling, starting from 1440p in docked mode and from 1080p in portable mode.

Nintendo bought the Bandai Namco team that worked on Splatoon

In light of this upgrade, it is difficult to imagine that a native version for Switch 2 could introduce truly significant technical innovations, such as to justify a “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition”. It is therefore possible that the company is preparing an operation similar to those seen with Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Lost Landwhere in addition to technical improvements have been added unpublished content compared to the original versions.

Clearly, however, these remain only suppositions to be taken with a grain of salt: we cannot exclude that the PEGI classification was simply the result of a careless error.
