The “Drug King” and the 40 million motorcycle collection

Over the past month, Mexican authorities have come very close to capturing Ryan James WeddingCanadian criminal included in the list of the ten most wanted fugitives in the United States. The operation led to the execution of several search warrants on assets attributable to Wedding, for a total value estimated at around 40 million dollars.
An incredible collection
What is striking, in addition to the extent of the seizure, was the contents of the garages and warehouses searched. The images released on social media by the official account of the Los Angeles FBI show a real collection of racing motorbikes, mostly by Ducati. A few stand out Desmosedici who have made the history of the 500 class and MotoGP, from Loris Capirossi’s number 65 to the liveries linked to champions such as Valentino Rossi (46), Andrea Iannone (29 and 04) and Jorge Lorenzo (99).
Ducati, what a passion
Alongside the Ducatis, motorcycles of great historical and symbolic value also appear: a reply linked to Mike Hailwood, the 1996 Aprilia 125 with which Valentino Rossi made his debut in the MotoGP and the Suter MMX2 with the Repsol colors he brought Marc Marquez to the Moto2 title in 2012. In total, from the official images there are at least fifty motorcycles. The operation was conducted by Mexican police in collaboration with Canadian authorities, the FBI and the Los Angeles Police Department.
From athlete to trafficker
Ryan James Wedding, 44, is a former Olympic snowboarder who competed in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games. Today he is wanted in the United States, Canada and Mexico on very serious charges: international drug trafficking, money laundering, criminal conspiracy and murder. The FBI placed a 15 million dollar bounty on his capture, while his passion for racing motorbikes became, paradoxically, one of the most visible clues to his life as a fugitive.
