In the last match of 2025, and on the day of the 130th anniversary of the first screening of the Lumiere brothers, it is Inter who put on a show. Only Inter, unfortunately. You can understand that the match is special from the crowd of accredited people that invades the press room, on the sidelines there are almost more journalists (the sidelines) than stewards, the press gallery is sold out like the whole stadium.

The match
Inter too strong: hats off
Inter wins after having fully deserved to win, Atalanta loses punished by very serious individual errors. But honesty requires you to see them as the way chosen by fate to do justice. Because the overall opinion says that the match had no history. Inter played a splendid first half: they outclassed Atalanta, no rival has done so well this season. The league leaders imposed their football with high-quality phrasing and a continuous exchange of roles among their players, which created great difficulties for de Roon and his associates. Then, in the second half, after an apparent initial balance (which seemed so because Atalanta scored two false goals at that point, both disallowed due to obvious offsides), two errors allowed Inter to win the match. But the end result is right.
Decisive individual errors
The (negative) protagonists of the evening were Djimsiti in defense and Samardzic in attack. In the 20th minute, a huge error on the restart by «Gimmi» gave the ball to Esposito, who set up Lautaro to make it 1-0 for Inter. Then in the 42nd minute, in the final attempt at a comeback, two meters from goal Samardzic left-footed (his foot) placed a low ball put into the area by De Ketelaere beyond the far post. It was easier to put him in the goal than at the back. They were two crazy and – unfortunately for Atalanta – decisive errors.
But there was no match
In short, the errors decided, but they rewarded those who deserved to win. So why not recognize it. Inter is the team that has impressed the most this season, even more than Napoli. And, above all, Atalanta didn’t make a single shot on target, and it hadn’t happened for three years. The numbers are merciless: 15-7 shots, 4-0 shots on goal, 7-4 corners, 12-8 fouls committed, 55-45% ball possession. Everything for Inter. It’s clear that there’s no need to despair or complain. When in football those who deserve win, the verdict must be accepted regardless of the episodes that determined it.
Football belongs to everyone, but in a different way: in the stadium you watch it, from your desk you see it.
