The matches valid for WTA Guadalajara took place during the night. The most awaited match for our colors was certainly the derby between Martina Trevisan and Jasmine Paolini. Excellent start from Martina and immediately a heavy 3-0 with a double break, Jasmine doesn’t give up and gets to 5-5 and slowly recovers.
The match is hard fought but Martina Trevisan gets the decisive break in the eleventh game and closes 7-5. A first set that effectively decides the match, the second set is quite one-sided and Trevisan ends the match with the result of 7-5;6-2 in an hour and thirty-five minutes of play.
Excellent news for Italian tennis also from the other Italian player on the scoreboard, our Camila Giorgi. Almost two hours to beat the number 33 in the world, the Egyptian Sherif, in two sets. Camila appears in control from the start of the match, she starts with breaks and counterbreaks in the first two games, then navigates in balance until the break in the twelfth game where at the first break point / set point Camila gets the decisive point.
The second set was almost normal where Giorgi immediately took the lead 5-1, a break from the Egyptian and the 5-3 made the fans tremble but the Italian closed with the result of 7-5;6-3 in a hour and fifty minutes of play. In the other matches, Taylor Townsend won in two sets, quite hard fought, against Tomljanovic, still chasing a return to good condition.
In the first set the Australian has 4 set points on the opponent’s serve, but she doesn’t exploit them and in the end the tiebreak is reached. Here the American takes the lead and gets the set without problems. In the second set, another chance for Ajla who takes a break forward to 4-2.
The opponent then plays four consecutive games and finishes 7-6;6-4. Ok the former winner of the US Open, still trying to recover herself, Sofia Kenin, who finishes 6-4;6-3 against the Canadian Zhao. Formalities for Viktorija Azarenka who gives a double 6-1 to the qualified Montgomery and enters the next round without any problem.
