While waiting to know the details on the route, Italian enthusiasts can look at Lombardy 2023 with great interest. The fifth and final Monument Classic on the world calendar, scheduled for Saturday 7 October, will in fact see some of the great names of this historical period of cycling at the start. Self Tadej Pogačar has already included the dead leaves classic in his competitive agenda for some time, with the intention of signing a historic hat-trick of consecutive victories; at the start of the Italian race there will also be Remco Evenepoelwhich came out in a big way from Vuelta a España 2023, at least as far as stage victories are concerned.
The champions of UAE Team Emirates and Soudal-QuickStep will, however, have to contend with another great protagonist of these cycling times. In fact, it has also been announced at the start of Il Lombardia 2023 Primož Roglič, also just out of the Vuelta and intent on going for a victory that would add further depth to a season, his, which is already more than brilliant. The runner of Jumbo-Visma he has already competed for Lombardia four times, but without ever going beyond a fourth place, in 2021. However, his yellow and black teammate Jonas Vingegaard will not be there, who has announced the end of the season, at least as far as he is concerned.
The news of Roglič’s participation in the Lombard race was announced RTV Slo, which also makes it known that the same Slovenian will also be at the start of the Tour of Emilia 2023 (30 September). In this case, Roglič himself will be the one to hunt for the hat-trick of successes, given his successes dating back to 2019 and 2021.
