The 2023 road cycling season is drawing to a close but the calendar still has some interesting races in store, most of which will be held on Italian soil. The Adriatica Ionica Race is part of this, a short stage race now in its fifth edition.
For this year the race “on the routes of the Serenissima” will once again be held over three stages which will take place Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September. In the starlist many names that we are seeing protagonists these days in the Italian classics, including Lorenzo Fortunato (already winner in 2021), Lorenzo Rota, Alexey Lutsenko, Gianni Moscon, Vincenzo Albanese and many young prospects.
The new location on the calendar also brings big news to the route. No Veneto and Friuli as had often happened in the past and embraced territories much further south, which connect, faithful to the name, the Adriatic to the Ionian. We start with the Corropoli-Trasacco in Abruzzo, then we move to Puglia for the Conversarno-Castellaneta and closing in Calabria with the Cassano allo Ionio-Crotone. Three stages in which there will be no shortage of climbs, including the uphill finish on the second day which could make the difference.
