The name of Remco Evenepoel stays warm on all fronts of cycling. The reigning world champion, fresh from the painful retirement from Giro d’Italia 2023has resumed training and is planning, together with his team, the Soudal-QuickStepthe continuation of the season. Meanwhile, however, the name of Evenepoel bounces here and there even in the notebooks of Cycle Market. It has long been said that the Ineos Grenadiers would be very interested in the signing of the Belgian, and the fact is not a little irritating the director of Soudal-QuickStep, Patrick Lefevere. As reported by Leanthe Belgian manager would have had an interview with the rider and with his father, who also acts as his attorney.
“I spoke to them and said that these rumors about Ineos must stop – Lefevere’s words – I know there was contact after the Wollongong World Cup 2022but these drafts must be stopped, as they create a lot of nervousness in the team. Remco’s father says there’s never been any concrete talk and I’d like to see, since they have a contract with us until 2026“.
Lefevere also spoke about Evenepoel’s plans for the rest of the season: “He won’t be in the Tour de France, because in that period he will be undergoing a training period at high altitude in view of the Glasgow 2023 World Championship. The organizers want Remco to Tour of Belgium (June 14-18, because one stage passes right by his house, but I have the impression that Remco doesn’t care much. There is also the possibility of going to the Tour of Switzerland (June 11-18). I confirm that it will definitely be in the race ai National championships“.
