The session will open with the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev and Frenchman Muller, followed (not before 4:30 p.m.) by the women’s match between Osaka and Navarro, then it will be the Italians’ turn (not before 5:45 p.m.). The two Italian players will face each other to earn qualification for the third round, to be played against the winner of the match between Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor and Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
Jannik Sinner got the better of German Yannick Hanfmann in the first round, but had to resort to a fourth set. Matteo Berrettini instead beat Hungarian Marton Fucsovics 3-1. The South Tyrolean will start as the favorite, considering his status as number 1 on the circuit, but the Roman will play on his favorite surface and has all the credentials to chase the coup. There is only one precedent between the two Italians: round of 32 of the Masters 1000 in Toronto in 2016, Sinner won 6-4, 6-3 and then went on to win the tournament.
