It’s the official start day of Wimbledon and one of the most anticipated men is, needless to say, Novak Djokovic. The 25-time Grand Slam champion has won this tournament seven times and another success could bring him to reach his arch-rival Roger Federer, probably taking away one of the last records he currently holds.
The Serbian’s conditions are still to be assessed, about twenty days ago the tennis player underwent an operation on his meniscus and his presence at Wimbledon was in the balance until the last second. For many he couldn’t make it, especially considering that Djokovic’s primary objective, in addition to the London tournament, is to be at his best for the Paris Olympic Games, an event that will be held immediately after.
The Balkan tennis player had withdrawn before the Quarterfinals against Casper Ruud and immediately after an injury that for many put him out of the game. Djokovic has retraced, in some ways, the footsteps of the American tennis player Taylor Fritz, who also came from the victory in Eastbourne this year.
Fritz suffered a major injury and soon after, a few days later, he was able to take part in the London tournament. Among other things, Djokovic revealed that he also spoke with Fritz, as well as other people with major injuries, before making the decision to participate in the tournament.
