FIGC President, who can take the sceptre from Gravina: the possible successors

Circle plots, conversations in the good living rooms and meetings in the palaces that matter have animated the last year of the electoral campaign for the most coveted – and uncomfortable – position in Italian football. From today, and until the vote on November 4, we will therefore only see the tip of the iceberg, that is, the public tail of private paths beaten for months. Gabriel Gravina, which brought forward the elections also to respond to internal and external pressure, has always been able to count on a solid majority with at least three components at its side: Lega Dilettanti, Assocalciatori and Lega Pro; the first two also express the FIGC vice-presidents, Ortolano for the LND and Calcagno for the AIC. In short: if everyone confirmed their trust today, the president would be re-elected with over 80% of the votes. But the federal game has never been a mathematical game: in addition to the snipers, there are the undecided, those aligned but with reservations and those willing to be convinced and, net of some fibrillation, the Gravina front has always held up so far.

The opposition in Gravina

Serie A, the opposition, has always played with its cards on the table. A League that is itself divided into factions: Inter, Juve, Milan and Rome, for example, more than once they have distanced themselves from the majority and in March they asked Gravina to support the 18-team format against the other clubs who would like to stay at 20. Serie A is working on an autonomy project, today there is also an amendment to the “sports decree” that supports this thesis and Via Rosellini has already taken the FIGC to court (winning) on the liquidity index admissible to the championships. Federal Councillor Lotito, patron of Lazio and senator of Forza Italia, with these elections he will have the opportunity to overthrow his opponent Gravina; however, he will not be the public face of the campaign and the time to organize the front is scarce, also because of yesterday’s presidential move.
