The women’s basketball series A1 as a gift for her eighteenth birthday.

After having reached the age of majority less than a month ago, in fact, the basketball player from Scandiano Caterina Piatti has landed in the top division by signing a contract that ties her to the Paduan team of San Martino di Lupari.

A 194cm pivot, Caterina is coming off a four-year stint at Costa Masnaga where she was involved in the youth sector and the first team of A2 and B, despite her very young age.

Wearing the Lombard youth team jersey, he has collected a very respectable list of achievements: in 2021 he won the Under 18 Italian Cup, in 2022 he won the Under 19 Scudetto and second place in the Under 17s, in 2023 second with the Under 19s and third with the Under 17s, in 2024 second with the Under 19s.

Furthermore, Caterina is a key figure in the youth national teams with which she has already played in the Under 18 and Under 16 European Championships.

The girl from Scandiano is a daughter of art and has San Martino in her destiny; dad Gigi is the coach of Cavezzo while mom Ester Knopp was a Hungarian national (European bronze in ’91) and was on the field at the PalaLupe on the day of the first historic home match in A2 of the Paduan team in 2008.

“Some A1 clubs – says Caterina Piatti – contacted me and I understood that next season I would have the opportunity to compete with both Italian and foreign players of a higher level than the last A2 season I played”.

And she concludes: “I arrive on tiptoe but I am also ambitious and I want to have a taste of a professional sports career”.
