Euroleague, Panathinaikos-Real Madrid 95-80 |

Panathinaikos makes history. The Greens of Athens win the 2024 Euroleague by beating reigning champion Real Madrid 95-80 thanks to a final played to perfection, with very high intensity, overcoming a deficit of more than ten points. It is the victory of Sloukas (MVP of the final), who missed the winning shot against Olympiacos last season, and this year he made the decisive triple in the final period, and that of Ataman, his third success in the last four years. Seventh European triumph for the Athenian greens, while the blancos fail to find the back to back: in Berlin it ends 95-80. In the final for third place, Olympiacos beat Fenerbahce 87-84 and earned the lowest step of the podium.

Real’s approach is the same as in the semi-final against Olympiacos. The Blancos begin by arming the hand of Ndiaye, born in 2004, who scores 8 consecutive points, and then passes the baton to Musa: the Bosnian is unleashed in penetration and gives Madrid the first attack. Panathinaikos tries to stay in touch with Nunn, who scores 8 points and draws Tavares’ second foul, forcing him to the bench. Real’s attack, however, runs perfectly led by Campazzo, who keeps the pace high, and Nunn also runs into foul trouble. The reigning champions’ advantage exceeds double figures thanks to a 36-point first quarter: Ataman is forced to review the defensive rotations by inserting Kalaitzakis and Hernangomez, and the choice pays off. The rhythm breaks and Lessor enters the match, in an all-French duel with Poirier, and Sloukas. Pana gets back to -1, but two consecutive triples from Musa and Campazzo set the score at 54-49 at the end of the first half. The second half begins once again with Sloukas and Nunn, who with triples put Athens in the lead. The defense of Ataman’s team forces Real to force shots: the Blancos never find superiority in attack and make just three baskets in the third quarter, but Pana is unable to escape. In the final Ataman tries to create advantages with the small quintet, Mateo responds with the zone. Grant made an impact in both halves of the court, but Sloukas’ two triples gave the decisive turn to the game. Nunn first and Mitoglou then made the final push in the final minutes. The celebration of the many fans arriving from Greece can explode, with the exclamation point signed by Nunn’s dunk: Panathinaikos returns to win the Euroleague thirteen years after the last time.

Panathinaikos: Sloukas 24, Nunn 21, Lessor 17

Real Madrid: Musa 15, Campazzo 12, Rodriguez 11
