The South African federation approves a targeted technical intervention for the Pretoria franchise, protagonist of a not too brilliant start to the season
URC: 4 Springboks coaches to support Bulls staff ph. Sebastiano Pessina
The Bulls will be able to count on the support of four key figures from the Springboks staff in the coming weeks. The Pretoria franchise has in fact obtained the short-term help of Felix Jones and Jerry Flannery, assistants of the South African national team, the coach of the SA Rugby Mobi-Unit (a high-level “think-tank” made up of the best coaches in the country), Duane Vermeulen, and the head of athletic training, Andy Edwards.
The intervention was born from a specific request from the Bulls, accepted by SA Rugby and the Springboks management as part of the constant collaboration between the federation and franchises.
The team coached by Johan Ackermann did not start its journey in the URC and Champions Cup in the best way; is coming off five consecutive defeats and in recent days has fired assistant coaches Chris Rossouw (fullback) and Andries Bekker (scrum).

The technicians’ contribution will be limited in time and will be developed both remotely and with some direct presence in the field, without being configured as an official role within the staff.
Although Felix Jones and Duane Vermeulen are working closely with the Springboks, in the past the two have also dealt with franchises, operating as traveling coaches, always at the service of the South African professional realities.
Rassie Erasmus underlined how this type of support is part of the normal synergy between the national team and the clubs: the objective is to strengthen the franchises in the technical areas in which help is requested, for the benefit of the entire South African rugby system.
SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer was also of the same opinion, reiterating his desire to support teams when necessary to allow them to express their maximum potential.
