Armored maneuver in the Chamber. Opposition anger: «We are not paper pushers»
Final rush amid controversy over the maneuver. The text which arrived in armored form from the Senate arrives in the Montecitorio Chamber, where the government gives its confidence, after a quick discussion in the commission without any possibility of modification given that the third reading is precluded, under penalty of provisional exercise. The opposition goes on the attack, accusing the government of having reduced Parliament to “paper pushers” with a once again “mortified” debate. The Democratic Party, among other things, with Claudio Mancini dusts off for the occasion in the commission a video in which Giorgia Meloni in opposition in 2019 highlighted the fact that “there is no parliamentary democracy when Parliament cannot discuss the budget law”. In short, spirits are not exactly relaxed. The Hannoun case also contributes to exacerbating the situation. When Fratelli d’Italia intervenes at the opening of the Chamber session to ask on several occasions, attacking the centre-left, for two briefings on the matter, the controversy erupts and it really seems like there is only a breath left before the examination of the budget law can get wrapped up again. «The Chamber could become ungovernable like this – warns Marco Grimaldi from Avs – if you have decided to go to the temporary exercise, say so», he blurts out. The controversy, in any case, then subsides and the general discussion begins, not without some delay, so much so that the vote, initially scheduled for 7pm, is postponed to 8.20pm.
On the government benches, Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti follows the proceedings. «He has my human and personal solidarity – says Iv deputy Roberto Giachetti, addressing him – but also political because even today after FdI’s theatrics on Hannoun he managed to dodge another blow but who knows, there are still 48 hours to go…”. In fact, there are still two days left until the final vote on the budget law which will arrive on Tuesday morning. Among other things, one is scheduled for tomorrow sitting river given that all agendas will have to be examined, almost 250, with relative illustration. It is the last act of a maneuver that has seen more than a few stops and gos along the way.
The centre-right, in any case, claims a measure that has put the keeping of accounts at the centre. A text, says Brothers of Italy, which “combines growth, stability and equity”. Which contains, in the words of the Italian Roberto Pella, “concrete measures for the Regions and Municipalities and territorial equity”. None of this for the opposition. «It is a breathless maneuver, with which the government is leading us into a dead end», accuses the Dem group leader in the Chamber Chiara Braga. M5S is also attacking a “horror maneuver that continues to cut into social issues”, he accuses Davide Aiello. “Classist measures that take from the lower classes to give to the rich”, he says Marco Grimaldi of Avs. What stands out is, as usual, Action who, with Elena Bonetti highlights how much has been included in the race for growth upon request, claims, precisely of Calenda’s party. “It is wrong – the former minister highlights among other things – to use the maneuver to carry out broad-based propaganda.” Anyway in the sights of all the oppositions, above all, there is the compression of examination times by the executive. «In the face of this humiliation of the Chambers – he says Riccardo Magi, secretary of +Europa – President Fontana and President La Russa should strike a blow and guarantee the prerogatives of Parliament, formally recalling the executive”. Meanwhile, the minorities on this issue manage to get a warning for the future put on paper in the opinion of the Constitutional Affairs commission. «It is hoped that – it is specified in the majority opinion – in the future conditions and times will be ensured that allow a proper examination of the bill budget by both houses of Parliament”
