Budget law in final sprint: text in the Chamber. In the evening, trust

Listen to the audio version of the article

For the 2026 budget law comes the last act with a predictable ending. The Chamber Budget Commission concluded the examination of the budget bill on time, deciding to mandate the rapporteurs (Andrea Barabotti of the League, Andrea Mascaretti of Fdi and Roberto Pella of FI) to report to the Assembly on the text of the Budget. We start with the start of the general discussion in the Chamber; tonight around 7pm the government’s request for confidence is expected.

Armored text

The maneuver arrived armored in the Chamber for the second reading, where everything will be concluded in four days. Having remained in the Senate for 63 days for what the Economy Minister Gianfranco Giorgetti himself defined as a “tortuous path”, now the road is clear and the parliamentary agenda has set the final vote in the Montecitorio chamber for December 30th.

22.3 billion maneuver

During the parliamentary examination, especially with the arrival of the government’s latest amendment, the maneuver increased. The threshold for financial effects stands at 22.3 billion in 2026. The impact remains at 22 billion in 2027 and then declines to 20.6 billion in 2028. The cornerstones have not changed, even if rules have also been introduced to impact the habits of Italians, such as the 2 euro tax on purchases of small non-EU parcels up to 150 euros in value.

The timetable towards yes

No changes are expected to the text already approved by the Senate: otherwise the text would have to return to Palazzo Madama for a third reading but there would be no time for definitive approval and the provisional exercise would begin. The final green light for the budget bill should arrive on December 30th. Final voting declarations will take place by ore 13.
