The Swiss, second in Saturday’s giant slalom, leads with 9/100 on the Piedmontese from Albania. Shiffrin fourth at 5 tenths. Abysmal gaps after the first bibs, due to snow that deteriorated too quickly

Ski World Cup slalom in Semmering, Austria, with Camille Rast at the top of the rankings after the first run: the Swiss, already second in Saturday’s giant slalom won by Julia Scheib on the same slopes, leads with just 9 cents over Lara Colturi, from Piedmont who runs for Albania. The 19-year-old daughter of Daniela Ceccarelli, after a brilliant start in CdM 2026 (three podiums in the month of November), is always looking for her first overall victory and in yesterday’s giant slalom, beyond her exit in the second heat, she showed that she is increasingly closer to the overall result. Fourth is the favorite Mikaela Shiffrin, 54 cents behind Rast, also behind Katharina Liensberger (+34/100), the home favourite.
impossible snow at Semmering

The snow was a conditioning factor in the heat: the track fell apart too quickly, and the very angled track contributed to creating holes not only around the poles. Almost all the athletes who dropped above bib number 10 paid the price; in particular there were heavy delays for Duerr, Hector – third in the giant slalom won by Scheib after setting the best time in the first heat – and Melanie Meillard, among the strongest but all finishing more than three seconds behind the leader. Out of 79 athletes at the start, only 40 reached the end, the last with embarrassing gaps of over 7 seconds. It remains to be understood what will happen to the snow surface in the second heat, because it could heavily influence the results: with the reversal of the thirty, the big teams will descend with the presumably very marked track. The time (5.45pm) and the lower temperatures compared to the first half should partially address the problem.
slalom semmering, le italiane

The best of the Italians is Lara Della Mea, thirteenth after the first race, but she too was more than three seconds behind Rast, without having committed sensational errors, while Martina Peterlini ended up more than 4″ in twentieth position. Both Beatrice Sola and Giorgia Collomb were out in the final gates, while they were managing an excellent heat; Emilia Mondinelli, Giulia Valleriani and, making her absolute debut in the Cup, Giada D’Antonio also left; however, she already has a record: she is the Italian alpine skier born further south (Naples).
