MSF and dozens of NGOs banned from Gaza since 1 January

An evaluation which, however, does not take into account, for example, the medical support provided by MSF, which in the last year alone has provided basic assistance and treated thousands of inhabitants. Several international organizations have therefore criticized the new Israeli rules, calling them arbitrary and warning that they could put at risk the safety of humanitarian personnel who, according to the new directive, will have to be evacuated by March 1.

Hundreds of operators are currently located in Gaza. In a dramatic coincidence, the decision to revoke the license comes as the foreign ministers of ten countries issued an alarming joint statement. “As winter approaches, civilians in Gaza are facing appalling conditions, with heavy rain and falling temperatures,” warn ministers from Great Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Japan, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. 1.3 million people still need urgent housing assistance. Over half of health facilities are only partially functional and are facing shortages of essential medical equipment and supplies. The total collapse of sanitation infrastructure has left 740,000 people vulnerable to toxic floods.”

In the aftermath of the meeting between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, more details are emerging on the less idyllic part of the face-to-face meeting, the disagreements over the occupied West Bank. According to the Axios website, the president and his main advisors asked the Israeli prime minister to avoid provocative actions and to “restore calm”. Also yesterday, however, around ten settlers entered the Palestinian community of Ras Ein al-Auja, north of Jericho in the West Bank, sparking clashes. Five Palestinians were later arrested, while another was injured.
