“After the Corona video I called the producers to understand what was best to do. I had thought of letting Don Massimo die to get out of the scene”: Raoul Bova speaks

Thursday 8 January Raoul Bova will return to the role of Don Massimo in the fifteenth season of “Don Matteo“. A return to Rai1 after the famous “Bova gate”, triggered by the revelations of Fabrizio Corona on the alleged history between the actor and the model Martina Ceretti. Complete with the disclosure of audio and private messages, including complaints and alleged blackmail, as well as marking the end of the relationship with the colleague Rocio Munoz Morales.

In an interview with the weekly “TV Smiles and Songs“, the actor reveals that he thought about leaving the series produced by Lux Vide for fear of damaging the product and his character: “When what we know happened, I called the producers of the series to understand what was best to do. I told them: ‘If you think that, with my personal life, I’m doing harm to such a beloved fiction, tell me and I’ll step aside‘. I even proposed having Don Massimo die suddenly to get out of the scene,” explained Bova.

“They told me: ‘If you have done something illegal, tell us right away so we can find a fair way to move forward‘. I hadn’t done it, so we continued to work with serenity and no one on the set ever made a negative comment towards me, I had everyone’s support and comfort”, continued the actor. “‘It’s Don Matteo’s philosophy’ they told me. In the series we often talk about sin, about people who can make mistakes. If the actor who made the mistake was not forgiven, we would contradict ourselves“, his words to the newspaper edited by Aldo Vitali.

Bova recalled the positive atmosphere on set with Nino Frassica (“Initially there was only a strong and great mutual respect, now there is a personal affection, we really love each other”) and not only that: “We spend nine months on set, in close contact almost every day, we know the problems of each of us and we give each other advice. Nathalie Guetta, Francesco Scali and Pietro Pulcini they are like a family, they have never had a moment of prejudice or failure towards me when I was in difficulty.” His presence in the sixteenth season is not yet certain, because his character will experience a crisis: “If there will be Don Matteo 16? I don’t know if Don Massimo will be there“, concluded Bova.
