It took place this morning, Tuesday 2nd July, inside the Town Hall, Jockeys’ Marking who will compete in the Palio di Siena on July 2, 2024, which will be held this evening, with the horses leaving the Entrone del Cortile del Podestà of Palazzo Pubblico at 19.30.
In accordance with article 58 of the “Regulations for the Palio”, during the operations of marking the jockeys, the Captains communicated in writing to the municipal authority the nomination of the jockey for the Palio di Siena of July 2, 2024, also indicating his nickname. Inside Palazzo Pubblico, the jockeys, accompanied by their respective Captains, were presented to the municipal authority and the Deputies of the Festival, equipped with their jackets.
No surprises regarding the pairings during the jockeys’ marking: confirmed by all the Contrade those presented starting from the first test with the two debutants Mattia Chiavassa called Play and Gabriele Puligheddu said Granite.
The ten Contrade participating in the Palio di Siena on July 2, 2024 are: Ram, Panther, Caterpillar, Unicorn, Wolf, Owl, Goose, Giraffe, Nicchio and Wave; two pairs of Rival districts who will face each other this evening on the tuff of Piazza del Campo: Owl-Leocorno e Valdimontone-Nicchio.
In the lot of cavalli participants, there are only four who have already competed in the Palio, none of whom have been winners in their career: Tobacco (6 Palios run), Angel face (3 Palios run), Ungaros (2 Palios run), Summer (1 Palio race) NB the statistics do not take into account the current Palio. Instead, there are six horses making their debut on the tuff of Piazza del Campo: Akida, Ardeglina, Ares Elce, Brivido Sardo, Criptha and Zenios.
