There is something unstoppable in Morgan who speaks just a few hours after the Court of Imperia removed the charge of aggravated defamation from his shoulders (remember Sanremo 2020, the “bad intentions, the rudeness”?) and lets him face his great return to the discography with Warner even more freely: “I am a sort of musical sarcophagus, it’s been many years, let’s say since 2010, since I was eliminated before competing, that I have been missing from the discography even if I have written a song a day, I practically have eighteen albums ready to publish”.

He was eliminated for a fateful interview that winked at drug use and “the next day even my mother called me in tears but why did you do it? and they only talked about me, from that moment on everything happened to me”.

Today the first track of his second baptism, also previewed at the Concertone del Primo Maggio, has a title that alone is worth a review: Rutti. «It’s a protest song, more or less like L’Avvelenata by Guccini many years later. I wrote the verse and the music is along the lines of Fabrizio De André’s Giudice. I sent it to the president of Warner, who immediately replied: It’s a hit». And so, in the middle of a long and derailing monologue in his own way, Morgan confirms that he will publish other songs, one of which was composed with Achille Lauro and Chiello, another is titled Lamentatevi and in any case also «the new album will be a protest album, the world is not moving in the direction of inclusion and I am the confirmation of this».

But let’s be clear, not a political protest because “it is predictable to protest against the government, against the right”. Far from it. “Mine is a cultural protest for the restoration of humanistic values ​​in an Italy that is in a state of torpor”. Morgan is instead very active.

First step: he will publish many songs. Then TV: «I will do a program alternating with Bollani on Raitre before the news in the access prime time phase, a series of six episodes from Monday to Saturday, in the first ones I would like to invite Corrado Augias». Then books: «I will publish for Rai Libri Beethoven’s Ninth explained to young people».

And again the artistic direction of Villa Verdi: «I was wrong to announce that Minister Sangiuliano had already given me the assignment, but let’s say that there is interest. It is no mystery that the ministry is important to me».

Finally, of course, there is the Sanremo Festival: «They changed the host, Carlo Conti represents another logic, I did Sanremo with both of them, let’s say they have different ways of understanding things, more or less like Mussolini and Stalin» (laughs, jokes, no allusions for goodness sake – ed.). However «I could return to the Festival» he says, and who knows how much he believes it.

Speaking of TV, there is the inevitable reference to the new X Factor jury formed by Paola Iezzi, Achille Lauro, Jake La Furia and Manuel Agnelli: «A priori they seem like excellent choices to me. Manuel is my replacement (laughs – ed.), I’m really curious about Lauro, Jake can be a prodigy of smartness and I know Paola well, I also played bass in Vamos a bailar».

Morgan strings together one sentence after another and in the myriad of memories, examples and quotes this time perhaps the controversy arises less than usual, he lingers on talking about “calligrams” or “grapholinguism”, he sings the unreleased song Menzogna e giardino in a Battiato-esque way with the lyrics by Pasquale Panella “from an album already announced and that I would like to publish”, he sits down at the piano to demonstrate that all trap songs “are built on the four chords of No woman no cry by Bob Marley, always the same” and he confirms that he is totally different from anyone who is around today, sometimes vague, almost always visionary, even criticizable or not

shareable or even unreliable, but always sparkling, self-referential, curious. Perhaps it is a good opportunity for all this creative energy to really end up in the right channel and not be dispersed in a thousand volatile streams.
