Fire and Ash, the future of Varang faced by Oona Chaplin

VARANG is among the new characters of Avatar: Fire and Ashleader of a particularly aggressive Na’vi clan that lives on fire and forms a dangerous alliance with the military led by Quaritch. Quaritch, in fact, forms a dangerous alliance with the Ash Peoplea marginalized Na’vi clan that has now renounced the leadership of Eywa and lives by preying on other peoples, guided by the power of fire and the spirit of rebellion. Leader of the Ash People is the ruthless Varang, played by Oona Chaplin. During the third chapter, Varang fully supports Quaritch in his battle against the Sullys, but what will become of her in the next films?

As with Quaritch, Varang’s fate has not been clarified. We don’t know if Quaritch survived, while Varang is still alive and could return Avatar 4. To the microphones of Gold DerbyOona Chaplin reasoned on the fate of his character: “I would have fought for Varang to stay even if that wasn’t the case. […] Luckily, she was already in the script, and I hope to continue playing her in Avatar 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, for as many as we can.”.

As reported Screen Rant, alcune scene of Avatar 4 have already been filmed to favor the time jump among the various films especially for the younger actors. Yet Oona Chaplin didn’t want to say too much about it: we don’t know if she has already taken part in those scenes. The actress added: “There’s an interesting evolution to the Ash People and the role they play in the larger story arc of this Pandoran epic. I’m excited to continue exploring Varang, there are so many amazing possibilities for the future“. Thanks to Quarich, then, the character has broadened his vision of the world, fueling his ambition even more: “This film is his coming-of-age story. At first it’s in a fight and flight mode, and when you live like that you can’t see past it. Then, when Quaritch allows her to look beyond the horizon, she understands that she can face Eywa and the other Na’vi“. Then reasoning about the nature of the character, the actress admitted that Varang brings with him a significant load of pain: “Varang carries a heavy load of trauma with him, which is good because he develops his strength by harnessing the power of his weakness. Fear is like fuel for her, even if she would never admit it. In this sense, it is also a warning about what happens when you let hate become your defense mechanism. What happens when you allow fury to take over?”.
