“La Grazia” by Paolo Sorrentino: what it’s about and where it was filmed in Turin

“La Grazia” by Paolo Sorrentino was filmed in Turin thanks to the support of the Film Commission Torino Piemonte. Among the locations that the people of Turin will be able to admire on the big screen are Palazzo Chiablese, the Moncalieri Castle, the historic bowling center “La Tesoriera” and the Egyptian Museum. Some important scenes were filmed in the “Lorusso e Cutugno” prison, “Le Vallette”.

The protagonist of “La Grazia” by Paolo Sorrentino is the President of the Republic, Mariano De Santis, a character who has no reference to existing presidents but who is completely the fruit of the author’s imagination.

Widowed and Catholic, he has a daughter, Dorotea, a jurist like him. At the end of his mandate, between boring days, the last tasks emerge: deciding on two delicate requests for mercy. Real moral dilemmas. Which intersect, in a seemingly inextricable way, with his private life. Moved by doubt, he will have to decide. And, with a great sense of responsibility, this is what this great President of the Italian Republic will do.

“La Grazia” by Paolo Sorrentino was among the most acclaimed titles at the 82nd edition of the Venice International Film Festival and Toni Servillo won the Volpi Cup for Best Male Performance.

The presence of Turin actors is also important. Linda Messerklinger plays Isa Rocca, one of the women to whom the President of the Republic could grant “Grace”. Also in the cast is Roberto Zibetti who is the secretary of the President of the Republic.
