David di Donatello 2023: all the nominations

Italian cinema lives and fights with us, and the Donatello’s David is here to remind us. The ceremony, scheduled Wednesday 10 May in prime time on Rai1 for the management of Carlo Conti and Matilde Gioli, it is preparing to reward the best of our cinema with the hope that more and more people will opt for the cinema and stop considering the streaming platform as their only option. To excel this year as nominations are several critically acclaimed titles such as The eight mountainswhich sees its two protagonists Alessandro Borghi and Luca Marinelli both competing for best actors, and like the extra-large film by Marco Bellocchio dedicated to Aldo Moro, namely Outside Night, leader with 18 nominations. However, there are also two wonderful films such as The Lord of the Ants by Gianni Amelio, dedicated to the case of Aldo Braibanti, e The Strangenessthe film by Roberto Andò which managed to scrape together an income above expectations, also giving the nomination to Ficarra and Picone – which compete together – for the David di Donatello.

Along with the joy of seeing Emmanuel Fanelli nominated for Best Supporting Actress for an all too underrated film that is Droughthowever, there are also international names such as Penelope Cruzcandidate for The immensity by Emanuele Crialese, e Nostalgia by Mario Martone, who surprisingly does not get, however, the nomination for Pierfrancesco Favino as best leading actor. «He is a very solid and absolutely not obvious David», is the comment of the president and artistic director of the Italian Cinema Academy piera Detassiswhich foreseeing possible controversies highlighted that it is true that there are no female candidates for best director but that there are three for the category of best new director – that is, Carolina Cavalli for Amanda; Jasmine Trinca for Marcel!, and Julia Louise Steigerwalt for September -. The 68th David di Donatello ceremony will take place at the Lumina Studios, «decorated and reorganized for the occasion» in partnership with Cinecittà.
