David di Donatello 2023: the nominations | Cinema

Today is nomination day for the David di Donatello 2023: the ceremony of the 68th edition of the Italian film industry award, assigned by the jury of the Italian Film Academy, will be held on Wednesday 10 May and will be broadcast in prime time on Rai 1 .

To attend the announcement of nominations Stephen Coletta (RAI prime time entertainment director), piera Detassis (president and artistic director of the Academy of Italian Cinema), Nicholas Mechanical (CEO of Cinecittà), the conductor Carlo Accounts (who will be joined by Matilde Gioli), Lucia Borgonzoni (undersecretary of the MIC) e John Antwerp (deputy director of RAI prime time entertainment).

“This year, fortunately, together with Carlo, Piera, Giovanni and the Undersecretary we had a free chance to build a prime time event,” explained Coletta, anticipating that this year’s ceremony could be a little less formal than usual. “There will also be a micro-part of shows, because in any case it is prime time, also because last year there was a rebound in ratings after the previous editions had suffered from a restrictive mode. I think that for RAI it is always a duty to give space to the tenth muse, because cinema is perhaps also one of the last spaces of freedom in the expressive code, it brings evasion, a gaze detached from the present and gives the viewer the possibility both to escape and you acquire. Cinema is a glue between memory and the present”.

The ceremony will take place at the Lumina Studios, “decorated and reorganized for the occasion” in partnership with Cinecittà. “We’re here to support the awards,” Maccanico explained. “One of the aims of the David is to ensure that Italian cinema works in theaters: making it work on platforms is too easy because they are already close to the public. Cinecittà must grow to attract major national and international productions by creating content that attracts audiences to the cinema”. The Lumina studios will be the “pro tempore” home of the Davids, with the intention of structurally bringing the prize back to Cinecittà when the works to create the new studios are completed (there is talk of a six-year agreement).

Bergonzoni has promised a 20 million euro communication campaign over the summer to promote cinema in theaters, and between the two initiatives of the cinema in celebration (11/15 June and 17/21 September) the government will launch an initiative for which “Italian and European films will cost less, the money will be provided by the government”, for a summer full of Italian, European and American films.

25 David di Donatello awards were assigned, in addition to the Special Davids.

We will update the article with all applications.
