Today is a historic day for SABAP (Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape) of Catanzaro and Crotone, which inaugurated the new branch of Catanzaro in Palazzo Alemanni, a prestigious building in the center of the capital, in the presence of the highest civil, religious and military authorities .

This property was granted on free loan for 10 years by the owner Calabria Region, thus allowing the MIC Institute to have a dignified representative office in the regional capital, suited to the needs and requirements of the Office and of the User.

The opening of the branch office in Palazzo Alemanni anticipates SABAP’s next objective, namely the full functionality of the institutional headquarters in the authoritative building of Palazzo Morelli in Crotone, for which an important loan of 4,820,000.00 euros is underway, aimed at restoration, consolidation and safety measures to reduce seismic risk.

In the intentions of the State Administration there is therefore a firm desire to make the best use of these properties, among the most notable of the cultural heritage of the two provinces, enhancing their valorisation in the interest of the territory and the entire community.

During the inaugural ceremony, some of the artistic and archaeological assets on display were illustrated. Among these are some landscapes attributed to Salvator Rosa, on loan from the Marca museum, a contemporary work of art by the Cosenza artist Assunta Mollo, “The Fifth Estate”, and some important archaeological finds, from the archaic Greek period to the early Middle Ages.

Among these, some significant fragments, a lamp that comes from Stalettì, Soverato and the waters of Poliporto, a bronze object, a small clay dove and some bronze coins from Girifalco, some perfume jars and Greek personal effects found in Santa Maria of Catanzaro.

Some of these objects are indicators of the large Greek presence in the Catanzaro area and in particular in the Germaneto area, as already emerged during the Anas excavations, those for the construction of the Citadel, and now the subway.

The ceremony concluded with the blessing imparted by HE the bishop Mons. Maniago.
