Double commemoration in Legnano for June 2nd
Legnano – “A small local event that determined national history. How many Mazzafame farms have there been in Italy? How many with courage and determination have fought for a dream and a hope, for those who will come after us. Even those who fought the fascist regime now live freely”so the Mayor of Legnano Lorenzo Radice (read the full speech here) spoke on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the commemoration of partisan fight at Cascina Mazzafame of Legnano. The event, organized by‘municipal administration and Anpi Legnano, saw the blessing of the plaque commemorating the battle by the Provost and Dean of LegnanoMonsignor Angelo Cairati and the participation of students school middle school Rita Levi Montalcini. A very well attended event on Sunday 2 June, which also saw the presence of a good number of councilors and city councillors.
“An Italian struggle, a struggle of the people, of young men and women who with their commitment wanted to redeem the country of dictatorship. The Mazzafame farmhouse is still today a place where the values at the basis of democracy can be reaffirmed. It’s important – remembers Giuliano Ceolin from Anpi Legnano – knowing where you come from, to know where you have to go: freedom, democracy, rights and peace should never be taken for granted, becoming partisans today of yesterday’s values”.
At the end, the concert by the Legnano band. The morning of commemoration had begun in Largo Medaglie d’Oro, with the reading, among others, of President Mattarella’s message.
