The General Manager of the ASP Basilicata at the Inail conference as a Manager on leave highlights the role of the Occupational Medicine Unit of the Health Company
The General Director of the ASP Basilicata Antonello Maraldo participated in the Inail Prevention Forum which took place in Potenza. A moment of particular interest for the Asp General Manager who currently retains his pending role as Director of the INAIL of Teramo. It was a Maraldo between past, present and future who opened the proceedings of the Forum together with a large institutional audience: just two months ago he was at the helm of the national institute against accidents at work in the Abruzzo region and today he is Director of the Local Health Authority of Potenza which, with its Department of Prevention – Complex Operational Unit of Occupational Medicine and Workplace Safety, deals with accidents in the workplace.
The ASP General Director said he was enthusiastic “for having opened, in Basilicata, the work of an important conference which touches on the prevention sector in a particularly hot moment in which there is a resurgence of accidents at work which in recent times have affected also a very young audience of victims.”
In his speech Maraldo highlighted how the ASP has “a fundamental role in the field of prevention in the workplace, so much so that the three-year plan for personnel needs has also been worked on with the future hiring of ten technicians, some of whom they will strengthen the workplace safety sector.”
There are four sections of the occupational medicine and workplace safety operational unit, located throughout the provincial territory with the territorial offices of Potenza, Melfi, Villa D’Agri and Lagonegro and which operate in close collaboration with the public prosecutor’s offices of Potenza and Lagonegro. The staff belonging to the UOC is made up of 3 doctors, 14 prevention technicians and 3 administrators. The activities carried out, in addition to the ordinary ones, are based on scheduled surveillance in the area, surveillance by delegation of the Potenza and Lagonegro Public Prosecutor’s Offices, activities upon request of the Prefecture, activities linked to exposed persons and activities relating to accidents or emergency interventions. For these latter activities, the personnel belonging to the Occupational Medicine UOC make ready monthly availability which, due to territorial needs, has been divided into three territorial areas: north, center and south of the province to cover all one hundred municipalities in the province of Potenza.
Occupational Medicine of the ASP also works in close collaboration with the Territorial Labor Inspectorate of Potenza and Matera, coordinating the planned supervisory activities, or at the request of the Prefecture, relating to anti-corporalization campaigns in agriculture and supervision in quarry extraction activities.
In the years, even recent ones, there has been no lack of training meetings with different categories of the world of work, in particular on the occasion of important works being carried out in the provincial territory, such as the construction site for the construction of the Tito-Brienza link road and that of the completed A2 motorway Salerno-Reggio Calabria. As far as data is concerned, in 2023 the Occupational Medicine Complex Operational Unit attended to 63 injuries with a prognosis of more than 40 days. Furthermore, 2 fatal accidents were treated (one in mining and one in agriculture) while a third fatal case is currently being investigated. However, the ASP does not deal with commuting accidents, unless specifically requested by the Judicial Authority.
