On the occasion of the World Day against Gynecological Cancers, which is celebrated on 20 September, the Liguria Region is organizing, in collaboration with Alisa, a direct line on its Facebook page to raise awareness among the population on the specific topic. On Wednesday 20 September, at 3.30 pm, the experts will answer users’ questions collected on the Liguria Region’s social networks in the previous days, also leaving the possibility to comment live and receive advice and information in real time.
World Gynecological Cancer Day is celebrated on 20 September, to draw attention to the problem and increasingly improve awareness of risk factors, symptoms, possibilities of early diagnosis and prevention strategies.
Gynecological tumors are: ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer and the rarer ones of the vagina and vulva.
Every year, in Italy, the estimated incidence, that is, the number of new cases of the disease, is approximately 17,000 -18,000.
“Knowing the disease and diagnosing it at an early stage is essential to optimize treatment strategies which today are increasingly targeted and personalized – underlines Angelo Gratarola, councilor for health of the Liguria region – Promoting information on health issues allows women to improve their awareness also in terms of prevention possibilities”.
“Is critical – adds Filippo Ansaldi, General Director of Alisa – adhere to prevention programs because it allows you to identify any lesions that precede the manifestation of the actual tumor and can save lives: in particular, for cervical cancer, the screening test is offered in Liguria every 3 years to women who have aged between 25 and 64 and who receive a letter at home from their local health authority“.
The direct line organized by the Liguria Region, on Wednesday 20 September at 3.30 pm, will be attended by: Serafina Mammoliti, medical oncologist and DMT (Disease Management Team) coordinator for gynecological neoplasms of the Policlinico San Martino and Paolo Sala, president of Lilt Genoa and medical director of the Policlinico San Martino IRCCS hospital
