The centre, managed by the White Cross, was set up between the station area, the beach and the entrance road to the port. Obviously the arrival of the migrants has sparked controversy from local residents and those who work in the area. According to testimonies it seems that no one was informed of the arrival of new guests, the president of the Ponente municipality Guido Barbazza himself said that he “had no communication”.
Migrant emergency in Liguria, political opinions
“The arrival in Voltri of 50 people who landed in recent days will see the solidarity and participation of the associative and voluntary fabric of the area – wrote the Genoa Democratic Party in a note – which has always taken action in the face of humanitarian emergencies ”.
“It is necessary to establish a fixed presence of Police and Carabinieri in the area of the former Costaguta shipyards – asks the regional councilor of the League Alessio Piana – where the tents have already been erected to accommodate the arriving migrants. Genoa is saturated and no longer has spaces to host migrants, whether adults or minors.”
