F1, Zanzibar ready to host a GP: 500 million project

ROMEIn recent years, Formula 1 has been expanding more and more and now it could also arrive on the African continent. According to what has been learned from “Sportface.it”, in fact, the island of Zanzibar he would have been working for five years on an ambitious project in order to become part of the small circle that every year constitutes a stage in the calendar of the main automobile circus. According to the site, the investment should be around 500 million euros. Furthermore, on 7 September 2022, the resolution would have arrived from the investment body ZIPA (Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority) in proceeding with the project, with the consent and support of the government. To support the initiative there would also be one of the most important former Italian drivers, Giancarlo Fisichella.

The member of parliament of the Tanzania and project spokesperson, Salim Turkycommented with great enthusiasm on the possibility of hosting a Formula 1 World Championship race on the Zanzibar track: “We are delighted and honored to have the blessing of His Excellency the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council to introduce motorsport to Zanzibar. It will be the turning point not for the ride itself, but because it will bring Africa and Zanzibar onto the world stage of tourism and services”.
