In Sardinia too, Poste Italiane’s commitment to sustainability passes through the post offices. An example of these efforts can be found in Palau, in the province of Sassari, where the LED project has made the post office greener.
The new lighting
An article in the newspaper La Nuova Sardegna explains how the maintenance work, included in the “Led” project, provides for the complete renewal of the lighting system, through the replacement of the current fluorescent lamps with new low energy impact LED lights . These new lamps are able to allow the reduction (about 50%) of electricity consumption and the saving of maintenance costs linked to the longer life in hours of the lighting fixtures.
The numbers of the led project
The project, the article explains, has for some years been one of the main interventions for the northern part of Sardinia to contain energy costs and has so far involved 18 post offices, management offices and delivery centres, with an annual saving of over 74 thousand kWh and a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions of 64 tons. The initiative undertaken in Palau and Viddalba will also contribute to the achievement by Poste Italiane, by 2030, of the goal of ‘net zero carbon dioxide emissions’ as set out in the “2024 Sustain and Innovate” strategic plan, which focuses on of the strategy, in addition to innovation, sustainability.
