‘In recent years I have gained a new freedom’
(ANSA) – MILAN, MAY 26 – “I say it without false modesty: the Marrageddon audience will have to expect the biggest hip-hop show of all time in Italy”. Thus the rapper Marracash, speaking of the festival conceived and directed by him, arriving next autumn with the debut at the Snai La Maura racetrack in Milan. “I say this for the people, for the gargantuan stage and for the ambition, which is to bring something that isn’t here”.
The artist spoke about it to ANSA during a performance in collaboration with Belvedere Vodka in Milan, explaining that “the level of maturity and the importance of this genre in Italian music, even simply in the charts or in big events like Sanremo and the Premio Tenco, it is right to celebrate it with a festival that has nothing to envy to Festival Rock or other great occasions that hiphop has never had”. The idea, therefore, “is to celebrate this thing in the biggest way, always trying to elevate this music”.
The successes of the last few years have undoubtedly been “a great satisfaction and a pride. At the same time – observes the rapper – I also bring home a new freedom that I think I have conquered with ‘Persona’, the record of this explosion, which somehow it also freed me from genre clichés allowing me to make music that was finally completely my own. I think this, for an artist, is one of the most desirable results”.
The result, therefore, is that of having “earned a status that allows me to do what I want and also to have relevance in the mainstream, but according to my own rules, making music that is mine alone”. (HANDLE).
