The word “resilience”, so abused in the pandemic period and so connected to the darkest suffering as to become almost unbearable, echoed again yesterday in the Multipurpose Center of the University of Bari and with surprisingly positive nuances. Istat researchers Stefano Costa (Department for Statistical Production) e Claudius Vicarelli (Department for Statistical Production), in fact, presented the «Report on the competitiveness of the productive sectors, 2023 edition» with a focus on Puglia which shows that it is true that the region has always been afflicted by a stentorian growth in wealth per inhabitant ( «for twenty years, in line with national trends, the growth of per capita GDP in Puglia has been lower than that of the EU»), but since 2008 there have been «slightly better growth rates than both in the South and of Italy» and, even, «in the most recent period, Puglia seems to show greater resilience to the Covid crisis: between 2019 and 2021, the growth of per capita GDP was higher than both the national figure and the other southern regions, and albeit slightly higher than the EU27 average».
