Brothers of Italy say enough to foreign words in public administration. The idea came from the vice president of the Chamber Fabio Rampelli who presented a new bill to Montecitorio, signed by about twenty deputies from his party. The text launches the imposition of transmitting any public communication in Italian, the obligation to use translation tools or interpreters for every conference held in our country and the ban on using foreign acronyms or names for roles in the company, unless cannot be translated. But not only administrations. The proposal also targets school desks. In university and in schools courses in a foreign language are tolerated only if foreign students are present in the classroom. These are just some of the points in Rampelli’s document, made up of 8 articles. In the event that someone were to violate these obligations he will have a significant administrative penalty that can go by 5,000 to 100,000 EUR. The text reads that the proposal falls within «a perspective of national protection and identity defense». And establishes a Committee for the protection, promotion and enhancement of the Italian language.
A dated battle
Rampelli is not new to the battle of having to favor the use of Italian, wherever possible. In recent months, the Fdi deputy had announced his willingness to add an ordinary one to the constitutional law proposal to oblige all government-owned administrations to use Italian. But also in the past legislatures the vice president of the Chamber had asked to set up a superior council against theabuse of foreign languages. “Those who speak only Italian today risk the failure of incommunicability, but the even greater risk is that the beauty of a complex and rich language like ours is lost”, reads the bill. It should be remembered that Rampelli’s proposal is not a unique Italian. Similar rules already exist in France And Spain.
The opposition is ironic. But Rampelli goes straight
The reactions of the opposition were immediate. 5 Star Movement in the lead, who brand the proposal bordering on the ridiculous. “We thought we had already seen many rambling proposals from this majority, but the one that comes with a special bill from the vice president of the Chamber Rampelli beats them all”, commented the pentastellati exponents in the culture commission in the Chamber and in the Senate . They then recall that it was his government that established the Ministry of Made in Italy. And they joke: «Will Rampelli denounce his party colleague Urso who is at the head of such a ministry, so prone to foreignism even in his name? In short, it is the same government of which he belongs that is responsible for the pollution of the Italian language». +Europe echoes. With the deputy Benedict DellaVedova who asks Fdi: «Will the next step be to cancel the day hospital? Abolish streaming and downloads? Go back to calling Panatta’s sport Pallacorda?». But Rampelli goes straight and rejects the accusations against the sender, reiterating that his proposal targets only non-essential and translatable foreign words. But not only the opposition.
