
A strong earthquake, equal to a magnitude of 4.6 was recorded at 11.52 pm yesterday – Tuesday 28 March – two kilometers from Montagano, a town of 1086 inhabitants in the province of Campobasso, Molise, at a depth of 23 kilometers. The earthquake was also felt in the municipalities of Ripalimosani, Matrice, Castellino, Civitacampomarano, Lucido, as well as in Campobasso itself, where hundreds of people took to the streets. Moments of terror also in Abruzzo, Campania and Puglia.
The firefighters let it be known that at the moment there have been no requests for assistance, reports of collapses or damage to people. Even the Civil Protection of Molise has communicated that, from the first checks carried out by the Italy Situation Room, there are currently no injuries or critical situations for buildings.
“People have left their homes in a hurry, there is also great fear due to the landslide of 2017 which has already compromised the stability of the upper part of the town”, said the mayor of Civitacampomarano, Paolo Manuele, during an inspection with the technician of the town hall to check for any collapses that have not been recorded at the moment. “From a first lap there seems to be no damage if not very slight. So scared of course”, adds Marco Giampaolo, the mayor of Ripalimosani on social media.
In Campobasso, parking lots and rest areas were filled in a matter of tens of minutes by residents who preferred to spend the night away from home. On social networks, many comments from users who were awakened by the earthquake.
