L’AQUILA – Reduction of fertilizers and pesticides, safeguarding biodiversity and soil conservation.
These are, in summary, the objectives of the three notices published by the Abruzzo Region, as part of the Complement for Rural Development (CSR), for the granting of contributions aimed at supporting a more environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture.
The overall financial envelope of the three tenders is approximately 8 million euros.
For all three tenders, applications for support by the beneficiaries, individual or associated agricultural entrepreneurs and public bodies that manage farms, also collectively in the context of the cooperation intervention, must be presented by 15 May next.
“The commitment made by the councilorship – declares the vice president of the Abruzzo Region with responsibility for Agriculture, Imprudent Emmanuel – is aimed at making agricultural activities more sustainable and more competitive by allocating funds to strategic sectors of the sector. A virtuous model of sustainability – continues Imprudente – which will allow farms to be able to plan and implement structural actions that preserve the biodiversity of agricultural soil while increasing its fertility”.
The first warning concerns cover crops and the so-called bulatura, i.e. the cultivation of legumes, in land already sown with wheat, which has the advantage of improving the structure and fertility of the soil. Among the purposes also the sowing of “cover crops”, which reduce the risk of erosion by decreasing the period in which the soil is left bare.
The financial endowment of the call (SRA06 – ACA 6) is 3 million euros.
With the same aims of soil conservation, the Abruzzo Region has decided to allocate additional rural development funds to all those who will adopt cultivation techniques such as to favor the fertility of the soil and protect it from degradation. The second tender, in fact, is aimed at supporting the use of techniques “at shallower depths” which make it possible to improve the structure of the soil, its resistance to erosion and compaction, as well as to optimize the use of fossil reserves and counteract the reduction of organic matter.
The financial endowment of the tender (SRA03 ACA 3) is 2.5 million euros.
The third notice concerns the sustainable management of agricultural surfaces and in particular the reduction of plant protection products and the elimination or reduction of the use of pesticides. The intervention (SRA19) envisages a financial endowment of 2,300,000 euros.
