L’Arena of Veronaafter the collapse of the poinsettia, will remain closed to the public until 30 January. “It is a pity to see such damage to the extraordinary Roman monument that represents Verona throughout the world,” said the deputy mayor Barbara Bissoli after today’s inspection together with the mayor Damiano Tommasi in the Arena: the support structure of the comet during the dismantling phase of the structure slipped from the summit steps ending up in the auditorium of the amphitheater. “Today’s event – explained Bissoli – demonstrates, if it were needed, that the use of the Arena must be accompanied by great skill and respect, because any damage represents an unhealthy wound”. The municipal administration explained that all the necessary checks are underway to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident; the Verona per l’Arena Foundation is responsible for the construction site and for the installation and dismantling of the star, which commissioned a specialized firm.
