In Cavaglia, in the province of Biella, the first attack on man by wolves took place. A local hunter was taking his dog for a walk when two wolves appeared in front of him and immediately attacked. The dog is now dying and the 70-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was treated in the emergency room.

“It happened in Piedmont, but it could have happened anywhere, even in Lombardy,” said Barbara Mazzali, group leader of the Brothers of Italy in the Lombardy Region, “That’s why a year ago I signed a motion for control of the wolf in the Region. In this sense, it would be useful to think that law 157/92 would be transformed from a wildlife protection law into a “wildlife management law”, as requested by agricultural associations, and that even the wolf would be managed, through independent scientific studies, like all the other species present on the national territory as it happens in other European countries. Perhaps, after today’s attack, which narrowly ended in tragedy, we will be able to start having a serious discussion on this issue”.
