ROVIGO – With the qualifications for the respective playoffs of the red and blue Senior teams in their pockets, the attention of the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo temporarily moves to the commitments of its players in the blue jersey. Like every summer, there are several athletes of the company chaired by Alessandro Boniolo (photo below) who will answer “present” to the call of the various national teams in view of the continental commitments in the calendar.

Among the twenty Azzurrini chosen for the Under 18 European Baseball Championship scheduled in Regensburg (Germany) from Monday 8th July to Sunday 14th July, there are also the two Rossoblù Giacomo Taschin (photo above) and Matteo Marelli (photo below). A great source of pride for the Polesana club, but also a problem for Itas Mutua Rovigo, which will not be able to count on its two pitchers for the Serie A playoff game against Reggio Emilia. Italy is in Group A and will debut on Monday against Israel.

Still in Germany, in Paderborn, it will be the turn of the very young rider from Rovigo Lorenzo Pilate defend the blue colours at the European Under 12 Baseball Championships which start today and will end on Saturday.

Moving on to youth softball, Rovigo is already well represented at the European Under 15 Championships underway in Prague since the end of June. In the ranks of the Italian national team, in fact, there are also the rossoblù Sabrina Bottazzi and Agata Boraso. The Azzurrine opened their tournament with a resounding 10-0 win over their peers Croatia. Finally, there was a bit of Rovigo in the Under 13 National Softball Team that played in the 9th International ‘Giancarlo Bianchi’ Tournament organized in Saronno from June 27 to 30: also on the diamond was the young red and blue Angela L’Erario.

The picture is completed by the European phase of the Senior League baseball scheduled in Novara this week. In the Veneto selection, which won the Regions Tournament for the second year in a row, qualifying for the next continental phase, there are also five standard-bearers of the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo: coach Kay Chieregatoand the athletes Andrea Bergamasco, Valentino Chinedozi, Andrea Destro and Aron Cappellato. For the Veneto roster, two victories have already been achieved against Holland and Germany.

“As every year, the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo confirms itself as an important pool from which the Italian selections draw in view of the continental commitments – comments with satisfaction the rossoblù president Alessandro Boniolo – For us it is a source of great pride, as well as an important confirmation of the quality of the work we do daily on the field with our boys and girls. It is a shame for the two Italians involved with the Under 18 National Team who will not be able to give their contribution in the first playoff game of Itas Mutua Rovigo. We hope they can still carve out a leading role in the European Championship and, hopefully, also in the subsequent rounds of the championship phase”.
