Former Catania and Palermo footballer Antonio Mazzotta was interviewed by Alessio Alaimo on “TMW” and released the following words:

He arrived in Catania as one of the market hits. Then something went wrong…
“I went to Catania with other projects, after two months they destroyed the initial plans with Laneri and Tabbiani. They didn’t give us time to work. We had the retreat in a field in precarious conditions, at the beginning we had an hour’s drive to go to training. Then we went to Cibalino, which is a field with different dimensions compared to those of the stadium. We were all new, we had to form the group, instead they changed everything. Overall until January the group led the team to the semi-final of the Italian Cup”.
Why did he end up on the sidelines?
“I was accused of a lack of commitment and they sidelined me: if there is no strong management and you follow the voices of the square, this happens. When this accusation was made against me I was hurt, after twenty years of playing football and always behaving well, I was hurt in my pride”.
Catania has changed director and coach.
«This year I see them doing well because they have hired a winning coach and a director who has played real football and knows how to manage a group».
It promises to be a challenging championship.
“Group C is always the toughest. I see Avellino doing well, as they have confirmed most of the group, and Catania, which has a prepared director, as well as Trapani, which has an ambitious project and a president who aims high.”
His ID card says Palermo: how do you see the pink and blacks?
«There is a company that will invest a lot and in my opinion if it reconfirms the majority of the group by making some important additions it can win the championship and aim for promotion».
And are you ready to return to the field?
“There has been some contact. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks. I definitely want to get back to playing.”
