The Sardinian club has said goodbye to its former footballer, who passed away at the age of 77, with a message that appeared on social media

More than five months after the death of Gigi Riva, Cagliari mourns another champion of the 1970 championship: Comunardo Nicolai. The stopper of the Italian champion team and of the National team at the World Cup in Mexico died last night in hospital in Pistoia at the age of 77.

“He leaves behind the memory of a great sportsman, a polite, kind, respectful, cordial man, who knew how to make himself loved”. This is what Cagliari Calcio wrote on social media.

He arrived in Cagliari at a very young age after a year at Torres: he remained with the red and blue jersey from 1964 to 1976. Then the move to Perugia. He went down in history as the “king of own goals”, perhaps for that header that surprised Albertosi in the match between Juventus and Cagliari in 1970. Over two hundred games in red and blue, three in the national team. He was injured in the blue jersey in the first match of the World Cup in Mexico.
