“At the service of anyone who has been wronged”

“We will be at the service of anyone who has suffered an injustice.” These are the first words of Salvatore Vella, now former deputy of Agrigento, as Chief Prosecutor of the Republic, who took office this morning in Gela. The ceremony took place at the Palace of Justice in front of the panel presided over by Judge Roberto Reggio. Lucia Musti, Vella’s predecessor, did the honors with a formal handover. “I am Sicilian and I belong to that generation that grew up with the blood of massacres. When I won the competition to become a magistrate I had no doubts about wanting to return to Sicily and I am still here after more than twenty years.”

The new chief prosecutor continues: “We must pay attention to what we write, because we write measures that affect people’s lives. We must have respect for all parties involved”. Vella, in his inaugural speech, retraced his career, not failing to mention the more than ten years spent in Agrigento, defined as a true training ground. Many colleagues were present at the ceremony, such as Fernando Asaro, former prosecutor of Gela, now head of the prosecutors in Marsala, and the current prosecutor of Agrigento, Giovanni Di Leo. From the City of Temples, there was also a representation of the Bar Association represented by Vincenza Gaziano.
