In the photo: Brandale square and tower in Savona

Savona is one of the most popular destinations during the editions of Liguria of the Arts. After the Oratory of Our Lady of Castello where we admired the Foppa Brea Polyptych, after having visited the Civic Art Gallery in the rooms of the seventeenth-century Palazzo Gavotti, custodian among others of the surprising Milena Milani art collection which includes two works by Pablo Picasso, Friday 5 July (9 pm) Pino Petruzzelli and his team return to Savona to discover together with the public the Brandale Tower.

An eagerly awaited appointment as can be seen from the words of Nicoletta BlackMunicipal Councillor for Culture: «The beautiful path of Liguria delle Arti returns to Savona and does so to celebrate the 100 years of the A Campanassa Association, which with tenacity over time, carries on the ancient traditions of the city. It will be an important evening full of poetry. Savona holds priceless treasures that also thanks to these precious initiatives, return to shine with new light”.

Considered since time immemorial the symbolic monument of Savona, the Torre del Brandale is so old that the date of its construction is shrouded in mystery. Called by the locals “A Campanassa”, because of the victory bell housed in the bell chamber, the tower is located in the square of the same name next to the Torre Corsi and the Torre Guarnieri, both of medieval origin.

What is certain is that in the 16th century it was at the centre of a dispute with nearby Genoa, at the time the undisputed ruler of the Mediterranean: the rulers of the Superba ordered the council of Elders of Savona to halve the height of the Tower (which was 49.60 metres).

The Association In Campanassa (acampanassa.it), which is still located in the Brandale complex, in 1926 promoted a public subscription to restore the tower to its original height. Thanks to the broad participation of the citizens, within a few years the Tower returned to almost 50 meters and to stand majestically. This and many other stories will enrich the visit to the Palazzo degli Anziani, which includes many works of art, and to the Torre del Brandale, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of Savona, in the company of Laura Blackboardguide by A Campanassa.

Even on this occasion there will be no shortage of music, literature and poetry: Tiziana Canforian international concert pianist, a teacher for over 30 years at the Niccolò Paganini Conservatory from Genoa, will play on the piano pages by two composers from Savona, Vincenzo Berruti and Giuseppe Manzino. Pino Petruzzellifor his part, will give voice to the words of Joseph Mazzini and to the verses of two poets very close to the province of Savona: Camillo Sbarbaro e Angel Barile.

The appointment is for Friday, July 5 (9:00 p.m.) in front of the Palazzo degli Anziani. Admission is free.
