The first city council of Portico and San Benedetto, after the administrative vote of June 8 and 9, took place the other evening in a calm atmosphere to deal with the legal formalities, including the mayor’s swearing-in and the validation of the elected officials. For the civic list ‘The future has ancient roots’, headed by mayor Maurizio Monti, the following enter the majority: Stefano Talenti, Mirko Garavini, Claudia Cappelli, Danilo Baruzzi, Caterina Mordenti, Alberto Frassineti and Anna Facciani.

Three councilors will sit in the minority: two for the civic list ‘United for Change’, namely Luigi Toledo and Alessandra Bonaccorsi; and one for the third civic list ‘In Comune’, which goes to Serena Bambi. Firm in his voice, but visibly moved, Mayor Monti swore loyalty to the Republic, applauded by those present who packed the room.

The mayor then announced the new council he chairs, formed by: Stefano Talenti (deputy mayor), with responsibility for public works and the environment; Caterina Mordenti, former councilor in the previous administration, with responsibility for culture, school and welfare. All other responsibilities remain with the mayor, who in the future could also assign some to councilors. Mirko Garavini is the group leader of the majority, while Luigi Toledo and Serena Bambi are group leaders of the minority for their respective lists. In the council of the Union of Municipalities of Romagna Forlivese, the Municipality of Portico and San Benedetto will be represented by Mirko Garavini for the majority and Luigi Toledo for the minority.

Among the novelties of the Portico city council, the recording of all the interventions of the councilors has come into operation. The presentation of the programmatic lines of the mandate by the mayor has been postponed to a future meeting.

However, the mayor Monti anticipates: “The priorities of the 2024-2029 mandate are: reconstruction for the arrangement of the territory after the flood and the consequent landslides, with particular reference to the municipal roads and the landslide that threatens San Benedetto in Alpe, as well as reconstruction after the earthquake, which damaged above all the Bocconi cemetery. In Portico, the renovation of the part of the Portinari building and the annexed Voltone, purchased by the Municipality, will be started, with an expense of 560 thousand euros (500 Internal Areas and 60 Municipality); as well as the partial reconstruction of Via Roma, with the replacement of the worn or disconnected stones”.
