“Capture and slaughter of wild boars, killing animals is never a solution”

Viterbo – Lav heavily criticizes the municipality: “No non-bloody choices have been adopted and it is unacceptable that meat can be used as food”

Viterbo – We receive and publish – We learn today (yesterday, ndr), with great dismay, that in Viterbo, from August the capture and slaughter of wild boars will begin!

We cannot tolerate that the solution to the presence of wild boars in the city can be resolved, in a hasty and crude way, with their killing, we cannot tolerate that it is applied to sentient beings, with the right to respect and to life.

We will not recall the reasons for their presence (considering that the urban area is not the place where wild animals, specifically wild boars, should live), such as the unbridled consumption of land by man and the invasion of spaces inhabited by wild animals, the introduction of non-native wild boars by lobbies that needed numerous subjects to shoot, the indifference and underestimation of the state of affairs by the administrators who followed one another, which led to the current situation.

Nor will we underline that appropriate and non-violent choices have not been adopted, such as attention to rubbish collectionespecially organic ones, with different and more frequent collection times, thus avoiding that wild boars can continuously find food available; compliance with the rules of rubbish collectionand the positioning of anti-wild boar tanks in areas most frequented by ungulates; ground cleaning in the presence of fruit trees or acornsthe collection of fruits before they fall to the ground; and, above all, a Citizen education campaign to respect the rules regarding the correct collection of waste, to respect the timetables, but also to a correct way of behaving with wild animals, which they don’t have to be socialized.

Instead we want to remember that the selective cullinglike any intervention aimed at limiting the number of animals, they do not represent an effective solutionnor long-lasting: if, after many years of policies of killing wild animals, the problem is open, this means that the policy adopted so far is not the solution.

Since 2005, wild boar can be hunted selectively, all year round and at any time. However, despite the substantial absence of limits to its huntability, problems related to the presence of wild boars seem to be continually increasing, demonstrating that hunting not only fails to contain the number of ungulates, but actually appears to be a factor that contributes to their increase, demonstrating that killing animals is never a solution.

Finally, it is even more unacceptable that the meat can be used as food to give meaning to the killing of wild boars: we reject the concept of sacrifice in vain, because we are against the objectification of living beings.
